ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service has announced multiple charges against an Estevan man following an incident during the Nov. 4 nightshift.
According to the EPS, members received a 911 call requiring police assistance in the 1200-block of Third Street. A woman was reportedly being assaulted. On arrival, police were able to get her to safety but the suspect fled within the residence.
The EPS K9 unit assisted in locating and apprehending the suspect, who was hiding in the building’s basement.
As a result, 37-year-old man of Estevan was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, uttering death threats and resisting arrest.
He was scheduled to make his first appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on Nov. 5.

In other recent news, Estevan police arrested a man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. According to the Nov. 4 police report, officers assisted the Edmonton Police 'Service’s Firearms investigation Unit in apprehending the individual, who was residing in Estevan and wanted for firearms trafficking. The individual will be extradited to Alberta to deal with multiple firearms related charges.
That same day, police were called to a report of a person riding a dirt bike in the city and on several walking paths. Members attempted to make contact with the driver but were unable to do so and the matter remains under investigation.
Police are investigating a complaint of criminal harassment through repeat telephone calls.
Police responded to a report of attempts being made to gain entry into a locked business during the nightshift. The matter remains under investigation.
EPS received a report Nov. 3 of a suspicious man causing a disturbance and asking patrons for money at a central Estevan restaurant. The man was asked by staff to leave but refused to until he was advised that the police had been contacted. Prior to members arriving on scene, the man left the area and no additional issues were reported involving a person with a similar description.
Compliance checks were conducted on a number of individuals bound by court-ordered release conditions. All those checked were found to be in compliance with their respective conditions.
An individual was reported to have thrown a cigarette into a garbage can at a gas station in the Trojan area, resulting in a fire. The investigation into this occurrence is ongoing.
