In a back and forth football game, the Manitoba Bisons got the last laugh as Matt Riley’s 39 yard field goal on the last play of the game gave them a 27-26 over the University of Regina Rams in Canada West football action Saturday in Winnipeg.
It looked as if the Rams may walk away with the win when Brandon Brooks intercepted Manitoba quarterback Des Catellier in the endzone with just over a minute to play, but the Bisons got the ball back and after a bad punt had good field position leading to Riley’s heroics.
Regina had a chance earlier in the quarter to make Manitoba score a touchdown, but kicker Aldo Galvan missed a 35-yarder to make it 26-24 instead of 28-24.
Regina quarterback Josh Donnelly threw for 257 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. One of the touchdowns was an 85 yard pass-and-run to Kyle Moortgat on the game’s first play.
After winning their first game of the year, Regina has now lost four straight and get ready for a game Friday night at home against the only team they have beaten this year—the UBC Thunderbirds. That game goes at Mosaic Stadium starting at 7.
