REGINA — Chris Fahlman made his fifth appearance in Regina Provincial Court this week to speak to manslaughter and other charges.
A new bail hearing date was to be scheduled during Fahlman’s Nov. 7 appearance, but it was delayed. When asked by Judge Daryl Rayner if she was ready to run a bail hearing, Fahlman's attorney Sharon Fox said no, as the judge the previous day had said the Nov. 7 appearance would not be for a show cause, and Fox did not believe it would be fair to the prosecution to have the session.
Fox also pointed out the hearing could take up to two hours.
After some discussion about whether to have the bail hearing on Nov. 10, 12 or 14, the judge, defence and prosecution decided to bring Fahlman back in court Nov. 10 at 9:30 a.m. in Regina to set the date and location for the show-cause hearing.
Fahlman is charged in connection with the death of 44-year-old Tanya Myers near Weyburn in September. Myers was a passenger in one of two vehicles struck by bullets while travelling on Highway 39 on Sept. 12.
The RCMP says Fahlman is charged with one count each of manslaughter with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm inside.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court twice on Nov. 3 and once the following day. A show-cause hearing was initially slated for Nov. 6, but it was postponed.
The RCMP says Fahlman and Myers were not known to each other. The RCMP did not divulge where the shots came from to protect the court process.
