REGINA — Angie Ducharme-Johnson, War Amps Regional Representative for Saskatchewan, laid a wreath at the Regina Cenotaph in Victoria Park on Remembrance Day.
Having grown up in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, Ducharme-Johnson participates in commemorative events to honour the sacrifices of those who served, including the amputee veterans who founded CHAMP in 1975.
"Since 1918, The War Amps has met the needs of war amputees," the organization said in a media release. "Today, the association continues to serve them and all Canadian amputees, including children.
"This year, The War Amps is celebrating 50 years of CHAMP. In 1975, the amputee veterans who founded The War Amps built upon their philosophy of 'amputees helping amputees' by creating the Child Amputee Program. Through childhood to adulthood, CHAMP provides child amputees with artificial limbs, lasting peer connections, advocacy and resources on living with amputation."
