CANORA —The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 47 calls from Nov. 6 to Nov. 13, some of which included: four 911 Act calls, three animal calls, two breaches of peace, two Coroner’s Act calls, two criminal harassments, one failure to comply with conditions, five false alarms, two frauds, four mischiefs, five Mental Health Act calls, three other provincial statutes, two suspicious persons, seven traffic collisions, three traffic offenses, and two wellbeing checks.
Jeep runs into tree
On Nov. 12, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that a white Jeep struck a tree on Garvin Crescent in Canora. Police learned the vehicle was driving erratically prior to the collision. The driver has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
Woman looking to fight first responders
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Nov. 11 to assist EMS with an intoxicated violent woman inside a residence in Canora. Police attended the home and located the woman very agitated and wanting to fight both the police and EMS. Once the woman calmed down, she was taken to the hospital by EMS. The woman’s bad behaviour resulted in two additional calls for service at the hospital.
Not funny
The Canora RCMP were requested to do a wellbeing check on a man in Buchanan on Nov.11. Police attended the man’s residence and observed him through the window laying on the couch appearing unresponsive with a note on the door saying “Thanks, I am dead.” Police entered the home and determined the man was alive and well. The man was told to take down the sign as it could be misinterpreted.
Profanity leads to RCMP call
On Nov. 10, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a business in Main Street in Canora for a report of a disturbance. The woman caller reported a man had sworn at her. Police spoke to the man and learned the woman swore at him first. Both parties were told to stay away from each other.
Police called due to leaking roof
A woman called the Canora RCMP on Nov. 10 to report she heard a large pop, and something brown sprayed out of her walls, burning her thumb. Police attended the caller’s residence and determined a leaking roof was the origin of the brown liquid and that the woman did not require medical assistance for her thumb.
Mischief leads to conviction
On Nov. 6, a 55-year-old man from Canora pled guilty in Canora Provincial Court to two counts of being unlawfully in a dwelling and one count of mischief. The charges stemmed from three previous incidents where the man had trespassed on private property and entered homes without permission. The man received a 15-month probation order with conditions to abide by a curfew of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and to not enter onto private residential property unless having expressed permission from the lawful occupant or owner of that property.
