Southey RCMP are investigating a fatal collision that resulted in charges.
On Nov. 14 at approximately 9:15 p.m., Southey RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Piapot First Nation, east of Highway 6.
Southey and Lumsden RCMP responded, along with local fire and EMS. One of the vehicle’s passengers was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 59-year-old male from Regina. His family has been notified.
Two additional male passengers were taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening in nature.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman, was taken to hospital for further assessment. She was arrested at the scene and later released pending her court appearance.
Melissa Watetch, 45, from Piapot First Nation, is charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm; operation of a conveyance with blood alcohol concentration greater than 80 mg causing bodily harm; impaired operation of a conveyance causing death; and operation of a conveyance with blood alcohol concentration greater than 80 mg causing death.
The accused is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Jan. 5.
Southey RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
