WEYBURN — A new show-cause hearing is scheduled for Chris Fahlman, who is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Tanya Myers earlier this year.
The inquiry, which will determine whether Fahlman receives bail, is to take place Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. in Court of King's Bench in Weyburn.
Since Fahlman is charged with murder, his bail hearing must take place in Court of King's Bench. Once it is finished, his matters will return to provincial court.
The bail hearing will also be his first court appearance in Weyburn since he was charged in early November with Myers' death. His initial appearances were in Regina, with the most recent coming on Nov. 13.
A couple of previously-scheduled bail hearings, one for Nov. 5 and the other for Nov. 14, had to be called off.
His next scheduled appearance for provincial court is Dec. 9 in Weyburn.
Fahlman is charged with one count each of second-degree murder and intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the life or safety of another person.
His previous charges have been stayed. Fahlman had been facing one count each of manslaughter with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there is a firearm inside.
Background: Fahlman is charged in connection with the death of 44-year-old Tanya Myers near Weyburn in September. Myers was a passenger in one of two vehicles the RCMP says were struck by bullets while travelling on Highway 39 on Sept. 12.
The RCMP says Fahlman and Myers were not known to each other.
