The Regina Pats have bolstered their goaltending depth, acquiring 19-year-old netminder Matthew Hutchison from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft.
The move comes as the Pats deal with Taylor Tabashniuk's injury, who is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks or longer.
Pats General Manager Dale Derkatch says the move gives them much-needed depth.
“We’re happy to add a veteran goaltender who can not only support Marek Schlenker, but also provide some valuable starts over the next couple of months.”
Hutchison, a Nanaimo, B.C. product, has appeared in 10 games this season for the Warriors, posting a 5-4-0 record with a 4.69 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage.
The 6-foot-3 and 176-pound Hutchison is in his third WHL season, having previously suited up for both Vancouver and Moose Jaw. Over 72 career games, he has compiled a 4.36 GAA and an .878 SV%.
Initially selected by the Vancouver Giants in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, Hutchison was dealt to Moose Jaw last season. He went 5-10-3 with a 3.89 GAA and .899 SV% in 19 appearances with the Warriors.
