SASKATOON — A former Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer has made his first scheduled court appearance in connection with an alleged off-duty assault.
Court documents show that 34-year-old Dylan J. Kemp was charged with assault stemming from an incident that occurred on Sept. 14, 2024.
On Oct. 30, 2025, Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) said it had launched an investigation after being notified by SPS on Sept. 19, 2024, of an off-duty incident involving several officers. SIRT said that an assault was alleged to have occurred during a social gather on Sept. 14, 2024. SIRT said that one SPS member was the subject of the investigation. A year later, on Oct. 30, SIRT charged the officer with assault. He was scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Nov. 27.
Although SIRT didn’t identify the officer, court documents confirm Kemp was charged on Oct. 30 and made his first court appearance on Nov. 27.
The Crown is proceeding by summary conviction, the less serious form of assault charge. The case is being prosecuted by Chris Browne, executive director of specialized prosecutions from the North Battleford office.
Kemp didn’t attend court in person. Instead, his lawyer, Brian Pfefferle, appeared on his behalf. Court documents also indicate Kemp is seeking legal aid.
The matter has been adjourned to Dec. 16.
The charge against Kemp hasn't been proven in court.
