The Saskatchewan Roughriders locked down another U Sports top performer on Friday, signing National offensive lineman Erik Andersen, the club’s second-round pick (13th overall) in the 2025 CFL Draft.
At six-foot-six, 314 pounds, the Western University product was the dominant force on a Mustangs offensive line that powered one of the most explosive offences in Canadian university football. His stellar senior season earned him the J.P. Metras Trophy, recognizing the top lineman in the nation.
Andersen’s impact at Western was impossible to miss. The Mustangs led the country with 45.1 points per game, rolled up 503.5 yards of offence per outing, and bulldozed opponents on the ground. With Andersen holding down the left tackle spot, Western’s backfield produced an eye-popping 2,159 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns, a full two scores per game and 14 more majors than the next closest team in the nation.
Over 46 collegiate games, he earned three straight First-Team All-Canadian honours (2023–25). He capped his Mustang career by claiming the Metras Trophy after being the OUA finalist just a season earlier. His talent also drew NFL attention, earning him a spot at the New York Giants' rookie minicamp this spring.
