The annual Light the Lights festivities in front of Regina City Hall will take place Tuesday evening with thousands of Christmas lights lighting up the Queen Elizabeth II Courtyard.
The event will start at 6pm and will include horse drawn wagon rides, Santa Claus, ice sculptures, games, live music, hot chocolate, and more. Dignitaries will also be on hand to help lead the countdown leading up to the Christmas lights being turned on, officially kicking off the Christmas season in the provincial capital.
In addition to the festivities, there will be a virtual colouring contest for children age 12 and younger. This year’s print was designed by Metis artist Phyllis Poitras-Jarrett and depicts a caribou surrounded by snow, sunshine, Christmas trees, and a Christmas present. In a press release by the City of Regina, Jarrett said “We must be mindful of our daily footprints by respecting and caring for Mother Earth… In my art the Spirit animals symbolize the qualities and values that every person has within themselves. Embracing these values will create conditions for our lights to shine bright on our life journeys.”
