NORTH BATTLEFORD — Robert Norgaard, 40, of Cutknife, is facing 32 criminal charges following an investigation by the North Battleford RCMP.
Norgaard was charged on Nov. 8 after he was stopped by police while in a Cadillac Escalade on Poundmaker First Nation.
According to court documents, the charges include multiple firearm offences. He is accused of possession of several loaded weapons without a license, including a shotgun, a .22 rifle, and a prohibited double-barrel shotgun. He is charged with several counts of possessing the weapons for a dangerous purpose and with possessing two firearms that had the serials numbers removed.
He is also charged with having prohibited weapons such as knuckle dusters, a collapsible baton, and a knife for a dangerous purpose.
In addition, he is charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of unstamped tobacco.
The Crown is proceeding by indictment, the more serious form of the charges.
Norgaard appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court via CCTV from the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on Dec. 1 for a bail hearing. The hearing was adjourned to continue later in December.
The bail hearing, before Judge Ian Mokuruk, is being conducted as a reverse onus proceeding. This means that the accused has to demonstrate why his release is justified, rather than placing the burden on the Crown to argue for his detention.
