Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for a significant portion of southern Saskatchewan, affecting areas from Meadow Lake to the US border and eastward towards Manitoba.
According to Meteorologists, a low pressure system is expected to start in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains Monday evening and move eastward towards Saskatchewan starting Tuesday. A narrow band of freezing rain is expected Tuesday morning affecting regions from Kindersley to Estevan, which means travel could become hazardous.
Environment Canada says this weather system is also capable to producing significant snowfall for southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba. No exact amounts have been determined yet, but 10 to 20cm is possible. In addition to freezing rain and snow, wind will also be a factor, causing blowing snow and visibility issues in open areas.
Travelers are reminded to monitor road conditions on the Highway Hotline before venturing out.
