SASKATOON — One man has been arrested and faces multiple charges following a traffic stop in the city’s Holiday Park neighbourhood that resulted in a foot chase on Saturday evening.
At about 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 7, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1500 block of 16th Street West. While officers tried to identify the driver, he fled from police a short distance before spinning out at the intersection of 17th Street West and Avenue E South. The occupants then fled from the vehicle on foot.
A search of the abandoned vehicle located an imitation firearm, a knife, and ammunition.
A police service dog tracked a suspect from the scene to the back yard of a home in the 500 block of Avenue E South. There, the dog located a 33-year-old man hiding under a barbecue cover.
He was arrested and treated by a paramedic in police cells for what police described as minor injuries consistent with a dog bite.
The man has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of ammunition while prohibited, and failure to comply with court-ordered conditions.
