REGINA — Six people are facing nearly 50 charges following a two-month investigation into thefts of trailers, landscaping equipment, recreational vehicles, electronics, tools and groceries.
Evidence collected shows the suspects were stealing, trafficking and purchasing stolen items including groceries, high-end electronics, appliances, clothing and tools. The approximate total value of the stolen items is over $260,000.
The Regina Police Service Property Crimes Unit began investigating multiple instances of trafficking of stolen property, shoplifting and trailer thefts in October. The investigation led police to an abandoned farmyard west of Regina.
There, police located an enclosed trailer with snowmobiles, a snowblower and car parts that had been reported stolen east of Regina earlier in October. They also found a second trailer carrying an ATV stolen from the same area and a third trailer stolen from Regina.
On Nov. 7 RCMP received a call from a member of the public who had located more stolen items at a second abandoned farm in the same area, west of Regina. RCMP contacted the Regina Police Service and it was determined the items were part of the same investigation already underway by the RPS.
From that location, police seized an enclosed trailer with five snowmobiles that had been reported stolen from Moose Jaw in late October.
On Nov. 13, RCMP received a call from a member of the public who had located more stolen items at a second abandoned farm in the same area, west of Regina. RCMP contacted the Regina Police Service and it was determined the items were part of the same investigation already underway by the RPS. They were investigating a trailer and skid steer which had been reported stolen earlier that day from the 2000 block of McDonald Street.
The investigation continued for several more weeks. Following multiple search warrants, including cell phone searches, six people were charged.
