MEADOW LAKE – Brenden Yew, 30, had an appearance in court on Dec. 11, where his matter was adjourned to Jan. 8, 2026, where he’s expected to make an election. He is scheduled to appear in Canoe Lake Cree First Nation Circuit Court.
Yew, who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant earlier this year, remains in custody after being denied bail. According to court documents, he escaped lawful custody on Sept. 6 while at St. Joseph’s Hospital, fleeing from an officer during a medical visit. He now faces new charges connected to that incident.
On the same day, further charges were laid at Canoe Lake First Nation. They include possession of firearms while prohibited under prior court orders issued in 2013, 2015, and 2021. He is also accused of carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and resisting arrest. In addition, he is charged with intentionally shooting a .22 calibre rifle in a careless manner and possession of the firearm without a license.
Yew was arrested by Edmonton Police Service on May 6 and returned to Saskatchewan. At the time, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) had been actively searching for him. He was wanted by Correctional Service Canada for being unlawfully at large.
