REGINA — A 46-year-old man is facing charges following a break-in at a business in the city’s Harbour Landing neighbourhood.
At approximately 1:10 a.m. on Dec. 13, police were alerted to a break and enter in progress. The business told police they were viewing live security footage and could see a male suspect inside the store attempting to pry open a cash register. The suspect had also caused damage to merchandise and deployed a fire extinguisher.
Police arrived a short time later and found the suspect inside the business, holding a metal pry bar. Officers informed the suspect that he was under arrest but the suspect did not comply and attempted to run out of the store, still holding the metal bar.
The RPS Canine Unit deployed a Police Service Dog (PSD) in order to bring the suspect into custody. The suspect continued to resist arrest and was eventually taken into custody. EMS was called to assess the suspect for, what appeared to be, minor injuries consistent with a dog bite. The suspect did not require transport to the hospital for further treatment.
He was charged with break and enter to commit theft, mischief over $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order.
He appeared in Regina court on Dec. 15.
