SASKATCHEWAN – The next Alberta clipper coming to Saskatchewan has spawned a couple of weather warnings.
A blowing snow advisory has been issued for portions of south-central, southeast and east-central Saskatchewan. The advisory, issued by Environment Canada, says the system will bring snow, blowing snow and gusty winds to parts of Saskatchewan on Dec. 18 and into the following day.
Southerly gusts as high as 60-70 kilometres per hour are expected the morning of Dec. 19, while westerly gusts as high as 70-80 km/h are forecasted for the afternoon and evening. There will also be a risk of freezing rain over southwestern Saskatchewan.
"Travel will likely be hazardous due to near-zero visibility. Road closures are possible," the advisory states.
Meanwhile, a snowfall warning has been issued for central and east-central regions, including Yorkton. It calls for 10-15 centimetres of snow, with more accumulations in higher elevations.
Communiities in 34 RMs are affected.
