NORQUAY — A man whose abandoned vehicle was found in a ditch near Norquay has been found dead.
Kamsack RCMP, who were among those searching for Daniel (Dan) Gobiel overnight, say he has been located deceased by searchers. His family has been notified.
Family, Kamsack and Canora RCMP, as well as RCMP Police Dog Services were searching for the 40-year-old man from the RM of Keys, says a release from the Saskatchewan RCMP. A missing person report was made to police around 11 p.m. Dec. 19.
Police say Gobeil's vehicle was located stuck in the ditch and abandoned on a grid road near Norquay, east of Key First Nation. He last spoke with someone shortly before 7 p.m. Dec. 19 and his vehicle was not stuck at that time, say RCMP. Gobeil was believed to be on foot, and due to the cold, there was concern for his safety, RCMP said in a news release.
According to Ennvironment Canada information, wind chills in the area were in the minus 30's overnight.
Kamsack RCMP has issued a thank you to those who assisted with the search.
