The University of Regina shone bright in 2025. The university forged ahead with new partnerships and discoveries, strengthened community connections, collaborated on signature events, and celebrated the hard work, innovative spirit, and kindness exemplified by the U of R community.

Cadmus Delorme Named the University’s tenth Chancellor
Cadmus Delorme, B.Admin, M.P.A, ICD.D. was announced as the new Chancellor in June. The former Chief of the Cowessess First Nation and founder of OneHoop Advisory Services, is a key contributor to community development, economic growth, and reconciliation initiatives and has been affiliated with the U of R for more than 15 years.

Annual Signature Research Event Inspires and Entertains
A Taste of Research: Connecting Minds, Discovering Possibilities was a memorable evening featuring some of the U of R’s most inspiring researchers. Attendees of the free community event enjoyed short, engaging TED Talk–style presentations given by the researchers on topics ranging from media and music to wildfires and Métis identity in visual arts, to small nuclear reactor safety and AI’s role in global security.

A Revitalized AdHum Pit Welcomes Back the U of R Community
After a major revitalization, the iconic campus gathering space reopened in September. The reimagined AdHum Pit debuted new artworks, accessibility features, and cozy and flexible seating at the celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony.
$8 Million in Federal Funding Fuels U of R Research
The U of R received $8.6 million in federal funding to support two new Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) and their accompanying Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) infrastructure projects—investments that will advance critical work in water protection and environmental sustainability.

U of R Shines as Host of the 60th Vanier Cup
The 60th Vanier Cup was held at Mosaic Stadium in front of almost 9,000 passionate fans in November. Hosted for the first time in Regina, the event proved to be a landmark moment in university football history.

Dino-mite Discoveries
A University of Regina research team made some dino-mite discoveries about how dinosaurs may have healed from injuries when they examined the preserved blood vessel structures inside a rib bone from Scotty, the famous Tyrannosaurus rex unearthed in Saskatchewan in the 1990s. Their findings were published in Scientific Reports and made Canadian and international news headlines.

A Lifeline Through Education for Afghan Women
The U of R revitalized its Project Resilience scholarship funding program to help Afghan women students remain safe and stable while pursuing their studies. Amid ongoing conflict and the collapse of international scholarship support, the U of R partnered with the Canadian non-profit organization Women Leaders of Tomorrow (WLOT). The first co-hort of students arrived in late 2025.

National Building Reconciliation Forum Held at U of R
In May, the First Nations University of Canada and the University of Regina co-hosted the 9th National Building Reconciliation Forum. One of the largest, and highest-attended Forums in the 10-year history of the event, FNUniv and the U of R welcomed 250 attendees to their campuses, representing almost 60 post-secondary institutions from across Canada.

U of R Named Among the World’s Best in Five Subject Areas
The U of R continued to earn global recognition, with five academic subject areas ranked among the world’s best in the Shanghai Ranking’s 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). The GRAS rankings analyze more than 2,000 universities worldwide and list only the top performers in each field. The Psychology program achieved its strongest result yet, breaking into the top 100 globally.

A refreshed brand identity for the U of R’s varsity sports and club programs made its debut in 2025. The refresh delivers new visual identities for both the Cougars and Rams, including reimagined logos, cohesive design elements, and a modern look that honours the legacy of both teams.

STEM and the Arts Join Forces in New Multidisciplinary Degree
The faculties of Arts, Science, and Media, Art, and Performance, launched a new interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts and Science degree. The three-year BA&Sc is one of the few programs of its kind in Canada, designed for a world where today’s most pressing challenges—from climate change and pandemics to political extremism and artificial intelligence—require insights from both the arts and sciences.

A Larger-than-Life Rabbit Makes U of R Home
With tall ears, large feet, and a playful spirit, a new rabbit has hopped onto the U of R campus, and it’s here to stay. Unveiled during a campus celebration in October, Jack Rabbit, a ceramic sculpture created through a 2023 outdoor ceramic sculpture course led by alumnus Brian McArthur (BFA ’94), now calls the Dr. Lloyd Barber Academic Green home.
