REGINA — Three youths are facing numerous firearms-related charges following an incident in which a firearm was discharged at a north-central Regina business late Christmas Eve.
On Dec. 24, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a firearm being discharged at a business in the 800 block of Victoria Avenue. The caller reported seeing several individuals flee the area following the incident.
While officers were obtaining information from the reporting party, additional responding units learned the suspects were travelling in a vehicle. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Garnet Street. All three occupants were taken into custody without incident.
A 15-year-old male youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations; unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle; possession of a prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition; attempt break and enter a business; disguise with intent; failing to comply with a disposition; possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; three counts of possession of a weapon; three counts of carrying a concealed weapon; possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; and possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized.
A 16-year-old female youth, who also cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, as well as storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations; unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle; possession of a prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition; attempt break and enter a business; and disguise with intent.
A 16-year-old male youth, who cannot be named, is charged with storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations; unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle; possession of a prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition; attempt break and enter a business; disguise with intent; possession of a weapon; carrying a concealed weapon; discharging a firearm in a reckless manner; six counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized; and two counts of failing to comply with a disposition.
All three youths made their first appearances on the charges in Regina Provincial Court on the morning of Dec. 29.
