This is the time of year when many of us begin tearing down the inside Christmas decorations. The presents have been opened, the leftovers have been nearly used up, and the Christmas trees look slightly barren and lonely without anything under them now.
For those with natural Christmas trees, the City of Regina has brought back their “Treecycle” program which allows residents to take in their trees for composting. The City has reopened their yard waste depot between December 26th and January 31st from 9am to 4:30pm allowing residents can take in their tree for recycling. Compost is then used in gardens around the city to keep soil fertile and to help maintain moisture levels. Usually in May, the City of Regina will give away wood chips and compost to residents as part of compost awareness week.
The 2nd Regina Scouts will also be collecting natural Christmas trees in January. For a minimum donation of $12, members of the Scouts will collect your tree and take to the yard waste depot for composting.
