SASKATOON — Update: On Jan. 1, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Saskatoon RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway 219, south of Saskatoon.
Police say their investigation determined a minivan and an SUV collided.
The drivers of both vehicles were declared deceased by EMS at the scene. They have been identified as a 28-year-old man from Wadena, and a 58-year-old man from Saskatoon. Their families have been notified.
Neither vehicle had passengers.
The highway was closed during initial investigation but has since re-opened. Saskatoon RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

A release issued by the City of Saskatoon on behalf of the city's fire department says fire crews and paramedics declared the drivers of two vehicles that collided on Highway 219 near Grasswood Road deceased on the scene.
The fire department responded to the call Jan. 1 at 3:27 a.m. Fire crews established a safe zone with the help of police services and closed the highway
They checked both vehicles for occupants and determined there was only one person in each vehicle. They used extrication tools to remove the bodies from the vehicles.
The scene was then turned over to the police for further investigation.
