In 2026 let the good news stories flow. In recent years we are mired in unsettling news with global conflict, disasters and various upheavals. As the world changes, not always for the best, we need to stop and realize that there are small victories at hand that should be seen as a bright light in what has become dark times.
Make a Difference Monday highlights a person or organization that puts a positive spin on things. Today, Ian’s Light Show is that event that is making a difference. This light spectacular outside of McLean, Saskatchewan has helped raised money and spirits over the Christmas season. Organizers say the overall number of visitors was down to 9,669. Factor in some unfavourable weather and road conditions that resulted in the drop. Money raised rang in at $50,519.40. The lights were on for 200 hours in December.
Donations are earmarked to help the Mental Health Unit 1-D at the Regina General Hospital. Such things as clothing, journals, audio & visual equipment, hygiene products and more will be distributed to the patients that need a boost.

After spending six days, sporadically broadcasting from Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Regina I have to say that the volunteers and staff of the faith based facility are doing an incredible job with a variety of programs and services including: Men’s Emergency Shelters, ‘Free’ Clothing stores, Meal Programs, Green Earth Daycare, Shayil Home Women’s Addictions Program, and 44 suites of affordable housing. There is a solid base of volunteers that assist in the meal program, but as we know, volunteers are always welcome. SHRM has wrapped up their 35th Anniversary and looks forward to answering your questions and serving Southern Saskatchewan moving into 2026.
Do you have someone you want to nominate for Make a Difference Monday. Let us know about this person or community group that reaches out to make things better. Whether it is shoveling the snow for those unable to do so, helping out with rescue shelters, maybe you have someone in your community that likes to take people out for coffee or does wellness checks, let us know.
