REGINA — What started out as spending more time together for a father-daughter duo turned into a ski tour for a good cause.
Roughly three years ago, Greg Scott and his daughter Hali decided to raise money for causes across Canada by playing music.
“[Our] travels took us to… Winnipeg to raise money for the Children's Hospital, Victoria for cleaning up plastic in the ocean, and Jasper for a lunch association,” said Scott.
During their travels, Scott started hearing stories about others being inspired to start their own projects.
“[So], we thought it would be great if we could turn that into a little bit of a movement.”
This led to the creation of Tidbits of Change, a non-profit organization encouraging Canadian youth to lead a project of their choosing in collaboration with a parent or mentor.
Along the way, the duo realized their passion for skiing and decided to conquer 44 ski hills in B.C as part of The SkÄdi TOUR.
During the tour, Scott and his daughter visited schools to encourage youth to take on projects that positively impact communities.
The tour led the duo to travel across Alberta and now into Saskatchewan across 11 ski hills.
Their Sask. tour started in Table Mountain near North Battleford. Along the way, the duo stopped at Duck Mountain Provincial Park, Optimist Hill in Saskatoon, and other ski hills.
“It's been amazing, and wonderful ski areas and wonderful places to visit in Saskatchewan. We were super impressed and just fantastic people.”
The tour will then end where it started at Table Mountain.
Scott said the last few years doing this have been amazing on a personal and community level.
“The strength of the bond of our relationship has, you know, just really fermented itself into something really special.”
“Also showcasing that relationship in the communities where we are hearing these amazing stories from other people who have done really significant projects in their areas.”
After their Sask. tour ends, Scott said he and his daughter will be focused on the organization in the short term.
“We'll be reviewing bursary submissions, and we're doing some speaking. I'm doing a lot of speaking engagements at Rotary’s, schools and different business organizations.”
As for skiing, the duo plans to tackle Manitoba next before heading to the Yukon.
“We would complete all the ski hills in Western Canada, and there, which we understand will be the first time that has happened.”
