REGINA — Several WestJet passengers from Saskatchewan are venting frustration after their luggage was left behind on a recent flight to Mexico.
One passenger, Darren Stoppler of Regina, shared his frustration on social media and in a message to SaskToday on Tuesday about what happened on a WestJet direct flight from Regina to Puerto Vallarta on Jan. 1. He said WestJet left “71 passengers stranded without luggage in Puerto Vallarta.”
“It’s been four days and we still don’t have our luggage or any contact from WestJet,” he stated. “You can’t call as they are so busy that they are no longer taking calls and their system for lost luggage will not provide updates.”
Other Regina passengers have reported similar experiences on social media. Gary Brotzel, known in the city for his involvement with the Regina Red Sox baseball team, posted about his experience on WestJet flight 2380 from Regina to Puerto Vallarta.
“Can you believe this one. On @WestJet 2380. Direct flight from @FlyYQR and only 10 bags showed up in total,” he posted this week.
His post received a response from WestJet’s customer care team, which wrote: “Hello, we apologize for the inconvenience and such an experience with us. We would like to closely look at the concern raised. Kindly follow back and share with us via DM your email address and mobile number so we can reach out and assist.”
There are now reports that some Regina passengers travelling to Puerto Vallarta are beginning to be reunited with their luggage through WestJet.
The concerns extend beyond Regina flights. Numerous social media posts in recent days describe luggage issues involving WestJet flights from various Canadian destinations to Mexico, including Cancun.
One user posting under the name “JulesVerne” wrote on X: “There is a ton of luggage sitting at Pearson that was headed for several different destinations, Barbados, Mexico, etc.”
Another user, Joe, posted: “We got royally screwed going to Mexico on January 1, 2026! Still waiting for our luggage! Disgraceful.”
SaskToday has reached out to WestJet for comment regarding the missing luggage from Regina but had not received a response as of publication time.
