REGINA — Community groups across Saskatchewan have until the end of the business day Thursday, Jan. 8, to apply for funding through the Sask Lotteries Community Grant Program, a long-standing source of support for local sport, culture and recreation.
Funded through lottery ticket sales, the program returns money to communities to help people participate, stay active and stay connected. The grants are designed to support programming, and can help cover costs such as equipment, instruction, facility time and inclusive initiatives.
For many volunteer-run organizations, the funding plays a meaningful role. It helps youth sports teams get on the ice, cultural groups bring people together, and recreation programs stay accessible for families who might otherwise be priced out.
The grants are distributed locally by municipalities and reviewed by volunteer committees made up of community members. Programs that increase access for youth, seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families and underserved groups are given priority.
Applications must be submitted by the end of the business day on Jan. 8. Late applications will not be accepted.
Funding decisions are typically announced in the weeks ahead, with successful groups asked to share how the funding was used and who it helped.
