LA RONGE — A 26-year-old man will stand trial in connection with the death of 39-year-old Steven Michel.
On Jan. 8, in Deschambault Lake Circuit Court, Maverick Eninew was committed to stand trial in Melfort Court of King’s Bench.
The charges relate to an incident on June 18, 2025. At approximately 4:03 p.m., Deschambault Lake RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a home in the community. Officers arrived to find that an altercation had taken place between two men. Michel was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
After an investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, a warrant was issued for Eninew’s arrest on a charge of second-degree murder. The RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team arrested him in Deschambault Lake on June 23, 2025.
Police say the two men were known to each other.
