REGINA — Country Corner Donuts has suffered interior damage after an early morning fire on Monday.
Vuong Pham, owner of Country Corner Donuts, said he received an alert from his alarm system at 4 a.m.
“I come here, and I can’t see the store because there is so much smoke inside.”
Pham entered the store where the fire had been burning around the countertop.
“[So], I take about 10 buckets of water from there to here (the countertop).”
Pham managed to douse the fire and immediately called 9-1-1.
After arriving on scene, Regina Fire suspected the fire had been caused by the soup warmer.
Pham described feeling devastated by the fire.
“This hasn’t been a good way to start the New Year.”
In recent years, Pham said his business faced challenges from Dewdney Avenue closing for a good portion of two years as part of a revitalization project.
“We dropped 25 per cent [in business] before it reopened in December.”
Country Corner Donuts has also faced vandalism in the past, including multiple cases in 2022.
As for what happens now, Pham is working on getting an estimated cost from his insurance.
He is hopeful the store can open up soon, and encouraged anyone wanting to support him to drop in after it returns.
