REGINA — Regina police have charged two people after a vehicle fled from officers late Monday night, triggering an extended pursuit that involved the Aerial Support Unit and two tire-deflation devices.
Police say the incident began around 10:25 p.m. on Jan. 12, when officers spotted a vehicle driving suspiciously in the North Central area, near 7thAvenue and Elphinstone Street. When they attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle sped away, ignoring traffic signs and signals.
The Aerial Support Unit monitored the vehicle as it left the city briefly before returning. Officers used a tire-deflation device, slowing the vehicle, but the drier continued to evade police and eventually abandoned it. Inside, officers found a shotgun barrel and .22-calibre ammunition. The occupants were picked up by a second vehicle.
Police then used another tire-deflation device on the pickup truck involved. One man ran from the scene but was tracked by a police dog and arrested. He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries consistent with a dog bite.
A 29-year-old woman is charged with attempting to obstruct justice and dangerous driving. She is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Feb. 18.
