SASKATOON — A 71-year-old bus driver from Prince Albert has been handed jail time for driving a school bus full of children while impaired.
Richard Arthur Potratz was sentenced by Judge Brad Mitchell in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 12 to six months in jail followed by one year of probation.
According to the Canadian Press, Potratz was operating a charter bus with 52 children when he was reported to police last March. Saskatoon police say they received a report of an impaired driver operating a charter bus at the time.
According to court documents, on March 14, 2025, Potratz had a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood within two hours after ceasing to operate the bus.
He was also given a driving prohibition for two years and two months.
