REGINA — A nearly two-year investigation into the whereabouts of Nakita Jade Harris has led police to presume she is deceased.
On Thursday, the Regina Police Service (RPS) presented an update on the investigation, including their reasoning behind the presumption.
“Throughout the investigation, all the information that has been gathered, there's no indication that she's still alive,” said RPS Deputy Chief Laurel Marshall.
She added, “There's no footprint of her being here, whether it be accessing financial records, health records, [her] social media has been inactive. Nobody's heard from her or seen her as well. And just checking and monitoring all public services across Canada, there has been no indication that she's accessed any services.”
Harris was last seen in October 2023 at the 2200 block of Broder Street in Regina. The last time Harris had been heard from was a month later, in November.
She was reported missing to police on April 10, 2024.
Since then, Marshall said multiple warrants have been executed, including at a home, several vehicles and for electronic devices.
Investigators don’t suspect any foul play in the matter, but Marshall didn’t rule it out.
Hoping to see her return home, Harris’ mother, Paula Murphy, read a statement, calling her a strong-willed, determined and smart person.
Murphy said Harris, who has a 12-year-old daughter, “would not intentionally leave her in Regina.”
Her daughter also released a statement.
"My mom has been a huge part in my life, and she always found a way to see me. I would love if we could find her to ensure her safety, and I am so happy to have a mom like her."
Murphy said Harris is deeply missed by the entire family.
“We need to bring her home. We need your help with this, and if anyone knows anything at all, even the littlest thing, it may help find her,” said Murphy.
Harris is described as 5’ 5” tall, approximately 150 pounds, with a medium build.
“When she was last seen in October of 2023, she had black hair, hazel eyes, and numerous body tattoos. Notable ones include a skull butterfly on her upper left arm, a compass on her left elbow, a campfire on her left forearm, and an octopus on her right hand,” said Marshall.
Marshall also emphasized that Harris had frequently changed her appearance in the past.
Anyone with new information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the RPS at 306-777-6500, or share information anonymously through Regina Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-tips (8477).
