Get Your Skate On!!
In 2008 the very first Saskatchewan Hockey Day took place in Unity. During the event the town raised over $20,000.00 to construct a female dressing room. In 2020 the community of Hillmond raised over 207,000 dollars for replacement of rink boards in the Wade Readen Arena. And last year Canora, Saskatchewan was the host community for the 17th annual celebration of hockey. The event raised over $160,500 to help the community through the transformative plan to replace the aging Civic Centre in Canora. Since 2008, the event has generated over $1.57 million to support hockey projects across Saskatchewan. Avonlea’s selection marks the third time that Zone 3 has held event.
Events began Wednesday and continue to Sunday with Saturday being the big day at the rink. Tonight, the banquet and community fundraiser will be filled with good food, fellowship and some great NHL stories from Marty McSorley. Doors open at 5:30 and include raffle draws, live and silent auction, the dinner and then Mr. McSorley. Proceeds from the event will benefit the much needed renovations to the Avonlea Memorial Rink.
Saturday Saskatchewan falls in line with Hockey Day in Canada, hosted in Moncton, New Brunswick. Avonlea will enjoy a great line up of hockey. For Saturday your rink admission is $10. I can smell and taste those rink burgers now! Keep Your Stick on the Ice!!!
