ESTEVAN — The storm that has lashed out at southeast Saskatchewan on Jan. 15 and 16 has resulted in some calls for the Estevan Police Service.
According to the Jan. 15 police report, an overhead line, downed by high winds, was reported to the EPS. In conjunction with SaskPower, it was determined to be a SaskTel communication line and posed no threat to the public. The issue was reported to SaskTel to be attended to during regular business hours.
Numerous commercial alarms were reported during the overnight hours. The EPS said all were investigated and determined to be caused by high winds.
Also on Jan. 15, members attended to a local business where two customers were causing a disturbance. On police arrival, one of the customers had already left. The other party was spoken to and received some guidance from the EPS on better methods of dealing with the other person.
Police received a report of a man acting strangely in the downtown area. Members patrolled the area but could not locate him.
The EPS received an anonymous complaint Jan. 14 about two red pick-up trucks at a parking lot. Members attended to the area and observed a red pick-up committing what the EPS called a driving offence.
A traffic stop on the vehicle resulted in the driver receiving a summary offence ticket, along with an inspection ticket for failing to produce a driver’s licence. According to the EPS, the inspection ticket permits the driver to produce his licence to police within 48 hours or an additional charge might be laid.
The second vehicle suspected to be involved in the initial complaint was also stopped and the motorist was warned about driving erratically in a parking lot.
The same day, EPS members attended to a panic alarm triggered at St. Joseph’s Hospital. On arrival, the EPS said it was determined to be false.
Police received a complaint Jan. 13 of an individual being targeted through multiple telephone calls over several weeks, requesting that they purchase iTunes gift cards and provide the card numbers. The EPS said the complainant was advised to not provide any personal or financial information and to block the caller. The matter remains under investigation.
Multiple reports came in of a man screaming and acting erratically in the Hillside area, and resulted in the arrest of the individual for public intoxication. He was released once sober.
A well-being check on a woman was conducted at the request of her employer, who had been unable to contact her. She was located and determined to be safe and well.
The EPS received a report of a man yelling and singing outside of an apartment building in the north Estevan. Members attended and located him, and he was arrested for public intoxication. He was lodged in cells to be released when sober.
Members are investigating a report of a woman receiving harassing phone calls from an unknown number.
A compliance check was conducted on a man who is on a court-ordered daily curfew. The man was not at his approved residence and charges for breaching his release conditions are pending.
