PRINCE ALBERT — A 19-year-old man is facing multiple assault with a weapon charges after police say bear spray was discharged inside the Gateway Mall in Prince Albert Sunday afternoon.
According to Prince Albert Police Service, officers responded around 2:20 p.m. on Jan. 18 to a report of a man with an outstanding warrant at a shopping centre in the 1400 block of Central Avenue. When officers arrived, the man ran away.
Moments later, police received a second call reporting that the same individual had released bear spray inside the mall.
As the incident continued, members of the Saskatchewan RCMP were on scene assisting and located the suspect in the 100 block of 13th Street East. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was used by RCMP officers and the man was arrested without further incident. Parkland Ambulance attended and assessed him but no further medical attention was required.
He has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Jan. 19.
