WEYBURN — Members of the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) made arrests in separate incidents of assault causing bodily harm last week.
According to the weekly WPS report, members received a report Jan. 14 of an injured assault victim requiring assistance. Officers located a man walking along Government Road with significant injuries. He was transported by police to the hospital for further medical care.
The WPS said an investigation determined the victim had been sleeping at a residence when he was awakened by another man associated with the residence. The accused then reportedly assaulted the victim. The accused was later arrested without incident, charged with assault causing bodily harm and released on conditions.
The other arrest came after police were called to a local business Jan. 15 after the owner reported an injured individual had entered the premises. Officers attended and found a man who had been assaulted and required transportation to the hospital for further care.
The WPS said an investigation revealed the assault occurred at a residence in Weyburn and involved another man. Police later located the suspect, who was also charged with assault causing bodily harm and released on conditions. The WPS added alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
In other recent news, police received a report Jan. 13 of propane tanks being stolen from the front of a camper trailer. No suspects have been identified at this time.
Police encourage anyone with camper trailers to check their property and report any similar thefts to police by calling 306-848-3250, the Weyburn RCMP at 310-7267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The WPS says it handled 60 calls for service from Jan. 11-18.
