ESTEVAN — The matters of two people charged in a drug bust in Estevan last year are moving forward.
Geoffrey Wade Hirst will have a trial July 2 in Estevan Provincial Court for public mischief, as he is accused of providing false information to the Estevan Police Service. According to information from the Estevan Provincial Court, Hirst and his co-accused from the drug arrest, Trisha Deanne Coulter, will have their drug-related matters dealt with at that time.
Hirst was held in custody following the public mischief and drug arrest. Coulter was released with conditions, but was later arrested in Manitoba on another matter and spent time in custody.
Background: According to the Estevan Police Service, Hirst and Coulter were charged with drug-related offences Aug. 1, 2025.
The EPS said its Drug Intelligence Unit and Criminal Investigations Unit executed a search warrant, which was authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, as part of a drug-trafficking investigation.
During the search, the EPS reports its members seized approximately $5,000 in cash, along with cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding $5,000.
Hirst and Coulter have been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of methamphetamine, as per the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and possession of proceeds of crime not exceeding $5,000 under the Criminal Code.
As for the public mischief charge, the EPS said the incident took place the previous day. The Joint Tactical Support Team, comprised of members of the Estevan and Weyburn Police Services, was deployed to the Tower Inn on Third Street for a person reportedly in possession of a firearm. Neighbouring rooms had to be evacuated.
The EPS says the tactical response and subsequent investigation led police to believe the reported firearms offences were unfounded.
