WEYBURN — An assault, a couple of collisions and a scam were among the calls for the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) during the past week.
According to the weekly report from the WPS, members were dispatched Jan. 24 to a domestic disturbance at a residence. Upon arrival, a man was located outside the residence.
The WPS said an investigation determined a woman had assaulted the man, causing minor injuries, and she also uttered a threat to cause bodily harm and damaged a camper belonging to the victim. She was arrested without incident and later released on conditions with a future court date.
In other recent police news, the WPS received a complaint Jan. 23 of an erratic driver in south Weyburn. While en route, officers received an update that the vehicle had struck a street sign and a tree.
Police located the vehicle and found the motorist was in medical distress. Assistance was provided until Weyburn EMS arrived, and police assisted with transferring the individual to the ambulance. The driver was transported to hospital for further care. No charges were laid.
Police responded to a single-vehicle collision Jan. 24 on Souris Avenue. Upon arrival, members determined an SUV had lost control on what the WPS said was an extremely icy road and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene. The driver was not injured and no charges were laid. The WPS added the tree sustained minor damage and is expected to make a full recovery.
Weyburn police is warning the public of a grandparent scam currently circulating in the community. Victims receive a call from a male claiming to be a grandson, stating he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in which drugs were located, and he is now in jail requiring bail money. If anyone receives a call of this nature, do not engage with the caller and contact the Weyburn Police Service immediately.
The WPS says it received 91 calls for service from Jan. 18-25. Police responded to 18 wellness and mental health-related calls throughout the week. Four individuals were transported to hospital for further care. On two occasions, police assisted medical professionals. All other incidents were resolved peacefully, the WPS said, with no further action required.
