ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service used drone technology in the arrest of a man following the theft of two snowmobiles.
According to the Jan. 27 police report, the EPS received a complaint of two snowmobiles that had been stolen from the city’s industrial area during the early morning hours. With drone assistance, members followed the tracks left by the snowmobiles to a residence near Frobisher.
With the assistance of members of the RCMP, a man was arrested at that location, and both snowmobiles were recovered and returned to the owner.
The EPS says the matter remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
In other recent police news, the EPS received multiple requests for well-being checks from friends and employers of individuals who had been unexpectedly out of contact. Each of the individuals checked were found to be safe and well, and not in need of further assistance.
A report of an Amazon package being stolen from a doorstep is under investigation by the EPS.
An attempted fraud was reported in which an senior received a call from an individual claiming to be a lawyer for a family member who was in need of money. The EPS said no personal information or funds were provided to the caller.
A girl was arrested and charged for damaging an empty apartment unit. The EPS said it was in relation to a complaint received earlier in the month.
Three curfew checks were conducted on individuals residing in Estevan who are on court-ordered conditions. Each person was found to be at their approved residence and abiding by their respective conditions.
