WEYBURN — Members of the Weyburn Police Service laid charges for assaults, impaired driving and more during what was a busy week.
Police were called Jan. 31 to a report of a collision involving one vehicle rear-ending another. Through the investigation, the WPS said it determined a woman assaulted both the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles. No injuries were reported and the WPS said the parties are known to each another. The woman was charged with two counts of assault and later released on conditions. The WPS said the matter remains under investigation.
In other recent activity, on Jan. 26, while on patrol, police observed a vehicle being operated by a man who was subject to the curfew condition of a probation order. His vehicle was stopped and he was confirmed to be the driver. He was arrested without incident and held for court later that morning.
Police received a Report Impaired Drivers line complaint Jan. 31 regarding a possible impaired driver travelling to Weyburn from Regina. The WPS said it located the suspected vehicle on First Avenue and a traffic stop was initiated.
The driver failed an approved screening device (ASD) test, was arrested for impaired driving, and later provided breath samples the WPS said were more than twice the legal limit. The driver was charged accordingly and released when sober.
Throughout the week, police responded to numerous requests to keep the peace while property was exchanged between parties. The WPS said police do not determine ownership of property or take sides in civil matters, but attend to ensure situations remain peaceful. Police also responded to several disturbances and disagreements, assisting by mediating situations when appropriate.
The WPS reports it handled 98 calls for service from Jan. 25-Feb. 1.
