The Melfort Mustangs and Humboldt Broncos were unable to gain ground in their hunt for the final playoff spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League standings on the idle Kindersley Klippers and Melville Millionaires.
Dayton Tailfeathers scored the game winner with eight minutes left in regulation to lead the La Ronge Ice Wolves to a 4-3 home ice over the Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday night.
Easton Kozak, Theron Watteyne and Brock Inglis scored to give the Ice Wolves a 3-0 lead, before the Mustangs tied things up at 3-3 as Carter Bilous, Zayden Sadlemyer and Austin Shepherd scored late in the second to tie it up for the Mustangs.
Riley Zezel stopped 29 of 32 shots to earn the win in the Ice Wolves crease.
In North Battleford, the Battlefords North Stars got out to three goal lead and was able to hold on for 3-2 win over the Humboldt Broncos.
Kobe Sawyer, Will Kirwan and Raiden Zacharias scored for the North Stars, while Tyce Penrod and Oliver Phillips replied for the Broncos in the third to make it a one goal game but that’s as close as they would get.
The Broncos remain three point back of the Kindersley Klippers for the final playoff spot in the SJHL standings, while the Mustangs are seven points back.
