ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service apprehended an impaired driver, responded to suspicious person complaints and investigating a firearms fraud complaint in recent days.
Following a traffic stop in the Pleasantdale area of Estevan, a 24-year-old Benson man was arrested for impaired driving by drug on Feb. 3. His driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized. The matter remains under investigation.
The EPS received a report of suspicious people observed to be travelling on bicycles in the industrial area. Members spent a significant amount of time patrolling the area, but were unable to locate the individuals. Several insecure buildings were located and property owners were advised. Police remind business owners and the public to secure their property to prevent crimes of opportunity.
EPS members attended to an alarm at a restaurant in northeast Estevan, which was determined to be unfounded.
The EPS received a report of an indecent act occurring at a business in the Trojan area. An investigation determined that no indecent act appeared to have occurred, but the EPS said the actions of the individual may have been indicative of a shoplifting offence. The matter remains under investigation.
A report of a domestic disturbance in the Pleasantdale area was investigated and the EPS said it was determined to be non-criminal in nature.
The EPS assisted the RCMP in Coquitlam, B.C., on Feb. 4 with a fraud investigation reported by a man in that area. The victim reported he had attempted to purchase firearms over the Internet from an individual alleging to be from Estevan. Money was transferred to the seller but the victim never received the firearms. The EPS says it confirmed the suspect is not a resident of Estevan and carriage of the file will be returned to the Coquitlam RCMP, as the offence occurred in their jurisdiction.
Members attended to a panic alarm at a business in the Hillside area. It was determined that batteries on the alarm system had failed and no emergency had occurred.
A report of a domestic disturbance between family members was attended to by EPS members who were able to mediate a resolution.
Multiple bylaw tickets were issued to semi-trailer units driving off the truck route in the downtown blocks of Fourth Street.
Police received two reports of a suspicious quad being operated in the east end of the city. Vehicle and foot patrols were conducted in that area and the matter is still under investigation.
