REGINA — Regina police have charged a man and a woman after officers spotted a stolen vehicle Friday night in the Eastview neighbourhood, triggering a brief pursuit and a second traffic stop that uncovered a firearm.
Regina Police Service say officers were patrolling near Winnipeg Street and 6th Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, when they saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Two people were inside. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped off, running a red light and accelerating to more than 100 km/h.
Officers followed for a short distance but disengaged as the vehicle continued at a high speed. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned in the 100 block of Wallace Street. Investigators determined the occupants had been picked up by another vehicle.
Just before 9:30 p.m., officers located the second vehicle travelling on Arcola Avenue East. All four occupants were arrested and police say a firearm was visible in the back seat. Investigators later confirmed the two back-seat passengers were the suspects who had fled the stolen vehicle.
A 22-year-old man is charged with dangerous driving, possession of a weapon, and possession of property valued under $5,000 obtained by crime.
A 24-year-old woman is charged with possession of property valued under $5,000 obtained by crime.
Both are scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Feb. 19.
