It was a banner Tuesday for Saskatchewan teams at the Under-18 Canadian Curling Championships, with Saskatoon skips leading the charge and turning pool play into a statement.
Saskatoon’s Renee Wood stayed perfect, pushing her record to 4–0 with a decisive 9–3 win over Nova Scotia. After a quiet first half, Wood broke things open with a three-spot in the fifth end, then slammed the door with four more in the seventh. Efficient. Clinical. Exactly what you want from a contender.
Just down the draw, fellow Saskatoon skip Quinn Snow was busy stacking wins of his own. He opened the day with a 6–4 victory over New Brunswick, setting the tone early with back-to-back deuces in the second and fourth ends. Then, in the evening matchup, Snow authored one of the day’s gutsiest performances. Trailing Alberta, he scored three in the seventh before stealing the eighth to complete a 7–6 comeback win. With the sweep, Snow now sits at 3–2 and is gaining momentum.
It wasn’t as smooth for Brandon Weiss out of Esterhazy, who dropped his only game of the day, 5–2 to Alberta. Weiss gave up steals in three straight ends — the fourth, fifth, and sixth — allowing Alberta to control the scoreboard throughout. The loss brings his record back to 2–2, still very much in the thick of things as pool play continues.
Wednesday promises more movement as teams jockey for position. Saskatchewan’s trio has shown they can win in more than one way — blowouts, tight finishes, and everything in between. Now it’s about sealing the deal heading into the championship round.
