REGINA — Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski is sending his thoughts to the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., amidst a school shooting.
On Tuesday, an active school shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School injured nine people and left 27 injured, according to the RCMP. The shooter is also deceased.
In a statement, Bachynski said he is heartbroken for the community.
“This is a despicable and senseless tragedy, and our hearts are with the families, students, teachers and everyone impacted.”
Bachynski said the City of Regina is standing with Tumbler Ridge and is sending its deepest sympathies at this time.
“There are no words to ease this kind of pain. As a father, I am holding the family very close in my heart.”
Bachynski thanked all the first responders for their swift work and professionalism in the investigation.
City Hall has lowered flags to half-mast Wednesday in the wake of the incident.
Bachynski said the city will continue its support for Tumbler Ridge in the coming days and weeks.
