ESTEVAN — An investigation is underway after a vehicle was stolen from a business in Estevan’s industrial area.
According to the Estevan Police Service report from Feb. 12, the vehicle was recovered in Lampman by the RCMP and contained several items the EPS said are also believed to be stolen. The EPS said forensic processing of the vehicle and its contents will be completed and the investigation into the matter is continuing.
A theft of a cellphone from a business was reported that same day. The EPS said an investigation determined an individual had accidentally picked up the phone, along with a reusable shopping bag, and was unaware the phone ended up in the bag. The phone was located, returned to the complainant and no charges were laid in the incident.
The EPS attended to a complaint of an unwanted guest in a residence. On police arrival, the EPS said the individual left without incident.
A report came in of a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and being driven erratically on Kensington Avenue. The EPS said the vehicle’s registered owner has been identified and a follow up is underway to determine the motorist's identity.
A 33-year-old Estevan man was arrested for failing to comply with court-ordered conditions, after the EPS said he was found in a vehicle with an individual he was prohibited from contacting. He was lodged in cells and appeared in court Feb. 12 to speak to the charges.
A small kitchen fire in the Centennial area was attended to by the EPS and Estevan Fire Rescue Service. The fire was extinguished prior to emergency personnel arriving and the EPS said no injuries occurred.
A 21-year old Estevan man was arrested following an investigation into shoplifting that the EPS said occurred in December. The individual was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police received a driving complaint regarding a vehicle being operated near the Estevan Comprehensive and Spruce Ridge Schools. The vehicle was identified and the registered owner will be cautioned under the Traffic Safety Act for their driving actions. The EPS said the public should expect extra patrols in the area.
The EPS received a Report Impaired Drivers line complaint in which the caller claimed a woman had consumed marijuana prior to operating a vehicle. According to the EPS, patrol members located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, during which a roadside oral fluid device test was performed on the driver, who was found not to have cannabis in her system.
A complaint of a property scam was received during the night shift. The victim attempted to rent a property in Estevan and was instructed to make payment by providing Apple gift card information online. The matter remains under investigation and the EPS reminds the public that requests for payment of this nature through gift cards is always a scam. When renting property, always ensure people can attend the property and view it with the renter prior to providing any personal information or funds.
