CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 26 calls from Feb. 5 to Feb. 12, some of which included:
- one abandoned vehicle,
- one 911 Act call,
- two animal calls,
- one break and enter,
- one disturbing the peace,
- one failure to attend court,
- three failures to comply with orders,
- one fraud,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- one uttering threats,
- one suspicious person,
- eight traffic offenses,
- three traffic collisions and
- one uttering threats.
Vehicle crashes into store
On Feb. 11, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle collision with a building. The caller reported that an older man in a Dodge truck drove through the front window of the Preeceville Home Hardware. No bystanders were injured. The driver had minor injuries and was treated on scene by EMS.
On Aug. 30, 2025, an unknown vehicle had struck and broke the other front window on the store. That collision from Aug. 30 remains unsolved.
Phantom prowler?
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 8 to a report of a break and enter in progress. The caller reported a prowler in the home. Police went to the residence in Preeceville and determined that no break and enter occurred and that no one was inside the home.
Suspicious men: intoxicated
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of suspicious people on a grid road in the RM of Sliding Hills on Feb. 8. Police attended the area and located three intoxicated men. The men had a safe ride home and further police involvement was not required.
Commercial truck stolen
On Feb. 6, the Canora RCMP investigated a report of a stolen vehicle. A white 2022 International MV607 commercial truck was stolen from a business in Canora. The investigation is ongoing.
Impaired driver sentenced
A 53-year-old man from Kuroki appeared in Canora Provincial Court on Feb. 4. The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle on Dec. 15, 2025, after driving into the ditch along Highway 5 near Buchanan. The man plead guilty to operation of a motor vehicle while over 80mg%, obstructing a police officer, and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. The man was sentenced to 432 days in jail and given a 10-year driving prohibition.
