Saskatchewanians have been basking in unseasonable warmth for past few weeks, however that will be coming to an end this week as a winter storm is expected Tuesday and early Wednesday followed by a blast of cold temperatures.
Environment Canada has issued a number of advisories and warnings for Saskatchewan including a snowfall warning for the Regina, Yorkton, Melville, Humboldt, Prince Albert, Weyburn, and Estevan areas. 25 to 35cm of snow is expected as part of a low pressure system sweeping across the prairies. Strong wind gusts of up to 80km/h are expected with the snow causing poor driving conditions. Meteorologists remind residents that non-essential travel should be postponed until after the storm blows out. Other areas of the province are under a blowing snow advisory.
Conditions are expected to improve starting later on Wednesday, but the temperature will be falling to about -14. Thursday will see a high of -18, Friday has a high of -17, and Saturday will be -16 before temperatures warm up slightly. Average high for this time of year is -6 and average low is -18.
