REGINA — An 18-year-old is facing several charges after police say he fled officers during an early-morning dangerous driving incident in Regina on Monday.
Police were called around 6:45 a.m. to the area of Albert Street and 25th Avenue after reports that a vehicle was swerving and hitting curbs as it travelled north. When officers arrived, the vehicle was gone.
A short time later, officers found the suspect vehicle near Regency Crescent and 3rd Avenue North and attempted a traffic stop. Police say the driver took off, continuing to drive erratically before crashing into a fence in the 2900 block of Avonhurst Drive. Officers didn’t pursue the vehicle and arrived at the crash site a short time later. They saw the driver running from the vehicle. He ignored commands to stop and fled through a creek and residential area before hiding under a vehicle on Robinson Street.
A police dog team was used to track the suspect, who was located and arrested without contact or further incident.
He has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, obstructing a peace officer, hit and run, and breaching release conditions. His first court appearance will be at a later date.
