CANADA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada are recalling British-made Kendamil brand infant formula with whole milk, a milk-based product with iron, that is sold only at Costco Wholesale, Canada.
The product is recalled due to cereulide, a toxin produced by some strains of the Bacillus cereus bacterium. Cereulide is a high-heat-stable toxin, meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or when preparing the infant formula for consumption. Symptoms include nausea and vomiting shortly after ingestion.
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation following a recall in another country, and says its investigation may lead to the recall of other products. Currently, there are only two UPCs that are under the recall:
UPC 8 50045 23826 1- MANF: 2025 MA 01; BEST BEFORE: 2027 MA 01; LOT 897274 M 121
UPC 8 50045 23826 1- MANF: 2025 MA 01; BEST BEFORE: 2027 MA 01; LOT 888632 M 121
Both UPCs are the 1049 g-sized cans of the infant formula with whole milk.
The recalled items are to be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. If you think you became ill from consuming the recalled product, consumers are to contact their health-care provider.
